Abstract
564,887. Retractive switches. ARROW ELECTRIC SWITCHES, Ltd. Aug. 31, 1943, No. 14173. Convention date, April 9, 1943. [Class 38 (v)] In a switch of the kind in which a movable bridging contact 34 slidable on the stem 18 of a manuallyoperable plunger 14, can be raised or lowered to engage contacts 42 or 44 by pulley or pushing the plunger, the intermediate position is maintained by a pair of springs, of which one, 24, bearing on a washer.26, urges the plunger upwards, while the other, 32, bearing on a part 28 of the base, urges the contact downwards. The latter movement is resisted by a further spring 46 bearing on washers fixed to the stem-foot and on a sleeve 54 slidable on the stem 18 and bearing on the contact 34. When the plunger is pushed, spring 24 is compressed and spring 32 expands and presses 34 against contacts 44. When released, the plunger is restored by spring 24 and a sleeve 30 slidable on stem 18 is urged by contact 34 to abut on washer 26 and prevent overshooting of the contact 34. When the plunger is pulled, spring 32 is compressed by the force transmitted to contact 34 through the spring 46, which, however, accommodates excessive upward movement of the plunger and serves as an indication to the operator.
