Abstract
657,407. Thermal switches. THOMPSON & CO. (SUNBURY), Ltd., R. E., and BENFORD, P. R. March 7,1949, No. 6133. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group VI] A switch for controlling the heaters of a fish tank comprises a metal base-plate 1 to which is fixed one end of a bimetal strip 2 actuating, through an insulating rod 3, a leaf spring 4 of which one end is fixed to the base-plate 1 and the free end abuts an adjustable screw 18 and supports a contactcarrying spring 11. On rise of temperature the bimetal 2 rocks the spring 4 about the screw 18 and strains the spring 11 until the attraction between an armature 14 on its free end and a horse-shoe magnet 15 is overcome and the contact 12 snaps away from the contact 13. The opening movement of the spring 11 may be limited by a back-stop which is adjustable to control the temperature-differential. An insulating and heat-resisting fibre sheet 5 having an opening 6 for the rod 3 insulates the bimetal 2 from the springs 4, 11. The switch is mounted with its base-plate 1 in contact with the wall of the fish tank by a spring clip 22 having in turned ends 23 received in holes in the cover 20.
