Abstract
658,409. Watertight doors. BALL, F. A., and KING, H. A. Dec. 30, 1949, No. 33363. [Class 113 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] A pressure-resisting door 1 has a hinging link 2 extending between a pivot 4 on the inside of the door frame 5 and a pivot 3 on the inside of the door 1, and operating means controlling the angle between the door 1 and link 2. The link 2 is rigidly connected to a toothed sector 11 coaxial with the pivot 3, and is pivotally connected at its free end to the end of a holding lever 6 linked to the door 1 at 8. Operation of a handle 15 or 16 rotates a shaft 13 journalled in the door 1 and carrying a worm 12 engaging the sector 11 which is hence raised and with it the link 2. The lever 6 is consequently moved clockwise to disengage a notch in its end from a flange 7 on the frame 5. The door is by this means raised (see Fig. 2, not shown) and may be swung upwardly about the pivot 4. In a modification, the operating means is a cross-head in screw-threaded engagement with a shaft' journalled in the door. A pin on the link 2 engages a recess in the cross-head to which the lever 6 is pivoted. Rotation of the shaft as before raises the link 2 and lever 6 to raise the door 1.
