Abstract
861,787. Vehicle doors. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Aug. 13, 1959 [Aug. 13, 1958], No. 27695/59. Class 103(2). [Also in Group XXV] In an automobile door with a vertically extending glass run channel, and having a latch, the latch bolt, a detent therefor and outside operator means for the latch, all lie outboard of the glass run channel in the door, and the latch comprises a latch frame 40 mounted on the joint face of the door, a latch bolt 48 (not shown) and a ratchet wheel 49 mounted on opposite sides of this frame, and a detent 50, which is pivotally mounted on the frame and which has afoot able to abut one of the ratchet teeth to prevent pivotal movement of the latch bolt in a door open-. ing direction, the latch having inside operator means comprising a rod 90 journalled to the frame and crossing inboard of the glass run channel, and a link 92 outboard of the glass run channel connected to the detent 50. As shown outside operator means comprise a lever 58 operable by a push button 30 and pivoted to the frame and to an intermittent link 64 which shifts the detent when in an unlocked position but merely idles in a locked position. A shoulder 68 on the intermittent link co-operates, when in the unlocked position, with a tab 70 on the detent 50, the latter rotating about a pin 52 to free the ratchet 49 and so allow the door to be opened. In a similar manner the door may be opened from inside by a handle which when depressed operates a connecting link 92 through a rod 90 and a remote rod 36, so that the detent is rotated as before. Locking is accomplished by moving the intermittent link 64 sideways so that its shoulder 68 no longer co-operates with the tab 70. This is effected by rotation of a multiarmed lever 82 about its pivot 84, 86, a tab 86 on the lever being connected with a slot 86 in the intermittent link. From the outside the multi-armed lever 82 is rotated through a link 80 which is lifted when the locking lever is rotated about a stub shaft 60 by a key being turned in cylinder mechanism 78, while from the inside the multi-armed lever 82 is rotated directly by a rod 98, this rod being held in either locked or unlocked position by a snapcover spring 102. The latch incorporates "automatic dogging" "remote undogging" and "keyless locking".
