Abstract

1,036,536. Latches. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. May 28, 1964 [May 28, 1963], No. 22159/64. Addition to 983,820. Heading E2A. An arrangement for the locking and unlocking of a plurality of closure devices on a motor vehicle comprises vacuum servo-motors under the control of a central change over valve which is mechanically connected with and operated by the locking means of the door adjacent to the driver's seat and is characterised in that the vacuum motor 19<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, associated with a luggage boot lid which is to be locally unlockable by a key is operative upon a mechanism comprising a rotatably adjustable lock cylinder 28, Fig. 4, which can be turned by a key so that when all the motors have responded to a locking setting of the change over valve, a predetermined rotary adjustment of the cylinder 28 is effective for enabling a push button 27, Fig. 2, to be operated for releasing a bolt 30 which normally fastens the boot lid and the cylinder 28 being retained in the adjusted position until after closure of the boot lid when the cylinder 28 is returnable to its original position. In the embodiment shown the lock cylinder 28 is rotatably adjustable within the push-button 27 and has, at its end, dogs 38, Fig. 4, engaging with projecting pins 37 on a crank 33 rotatable about the axis of the cylinder 28, and arranged so that when it is rotated to the position shown in Figs. 2 and 5 a crank-pin 35 thereon contacts the bolt 30 in which position depression of the push-button 27 pivots the bolt 30 to unlock the luggage boot lid. In all other positions of the crank 33 depression of the push-button 27 is ineffective. The crank pin 35 is articulated at one end of a telescopic linkage 45 connected to the diaphragm 19<SP>11</SP> of the vacuum servomotor 19<SP>1</SP>. In use movement of the central control valve to locking position applies suction at A so that the diaphragm 19<SP>11</SP> moves to the position shown in Fig. 5, and the crank 33 is moved to the position of Fig. 6 under pull of the linkage 45 thus rendering operation of the push-button 27 ineffective to open the boot lid. To allow opening of the boot lid independently of the central control valve the crank 33 is turned to the position of Fig. 5 by the use of a key inserted in the lock cylinder 28, extension of the linkage 45 permitting this. Locking of the lid by the key returns the crank to the position of Fig. 6 and replaces it under control of the central control valve. When the central control valve is operated to unlocking position the diaphragm 19<SP>11</SP> is moved to the left so that the link 45 rotates the crank 33 to the unlocking position Fig. 8 (not shown). If it is desired that the boot remains locked when the central control valve is operated the crank 33 is turned by the key to the position of Fig. 9 whilst the diaphragm 19<SP>11</SP> is in the position of Fig. 5. Unlocking by the central control valve causes the diaphragm to be moved to the left so that the crank is swung to the position of Fig. 7 (not shown) by the linkage 45. In both of positions shown in Figs. 7 and 9 depression of the push-button is ineffective.
