Abstract

892,370. Hinges. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. June 17, 1960 [June 17, 1959], No. 21323/60. Class 65(2). A hinge for a car boot &c. comprises a fixed plate 14, a gooseneck arm 16 carrying the lid 23 pivotaily mounted to the plate 14 at 17, and an angle lever 31 pivoted at 32 to the arm 16 and having a toggle spring 35 fixed between the arm 16 and lever 31. On opening, the pin 34 fixed to the lever 31 moves around the pivot 17 untii it abuts the flange 25 of the P-shaped slot 24 which it moves along until it reaches the top 41; just before it reaches the top, the spring 35 passes through a dead centre position and then tends to turn the lever 31 in the reverse direction. On lowering the lid slightly the pin 34 runs along the curved flange 26 and when the spring 35 again passes the dead centre position the pin 34 is brought into abutment with the flange 42. In this position the lever acts as a stay for the closure 23 and is released by a slight raising when the pin 34 will again abut the flange 25. The plate 14 is mounted to the vehicle &c. frame by bolts 13 passing through oval holes to allow slight adjustment of the hinge position.
