Abstract
658,376. Universal joints. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Aug. 19, 1949, No. 21601. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1948. [Class 80(ii)] A flange 16 on a driving quill-shaft 12 is coupled to a railway vehicle wheel 11 by a number of resilient members, arranged in circumferentially - spaced holes in the wheel and each comprising a pair of identical units consisting of a layer of rubber 21, bonded to metal discs .22, 23, the adjacent inner discs 22 having central holes larger than similar holes in the outer discs 23, and counterfaced to receive spigot-wise a load-supporting washer 36 carried on a spigot-seated distance-sleeve 31, directly supporting the outer discs 23 and mounted on a bolt 29 which clamps all the units axially through a common outer annular plate 28. The metal discs 22, 23 have rounded outer edges covered by the rubber. An additional free metal reinforcing disc may be embedded centrally in the rubber, Fig. 5, (not shown). In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, U.S.A. Specification 2,277,835 is referred to. This reference does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
