Abstract
658,036. Tying devices; friction grip fastenings. TRUSWELL, H. May 6, 1949, No. 12182. [Class 44] A tying device, Fig. 2, e.g. for use as a fetter comprises a cable 1, a hook 3 secured to one end and hooked to the cable to form a loop and a button 4 on the cable for engagement with the hook, said button comprising a housing and cable gripping means wholly concealed within the housing allowing movement of the cable through the housing in one direction only. The button, Fig. 1, contains a sleeve 15 fixed relatively to. the housing 12, and a sliding sleeve 16 having a series of openings at one end to receive gripping balls 17. This sleeve is urged by a spring 19 to drive the balls against the tapering end 13 of the housing, the convergence of the balls gripping the cable against movement in one direction but not in the other. A key 24 consisting of a hooked wire may be inserted through the opening 22 in the end wall 14 of the housing to engage holes 21 in the end of the sleeve 16 which is thereby withdrawn to release the gripping action of the balls. The device is tightened by sliding the button along the cable against the hook 3. The hook consists of stiff wire and has a limb 10 preventing its removal from the cable by manual force.
