Abstract

788,170. Dog leads. DAVIES, M. I. April 13, 1956 [Jan. 13, 1955], No. 1125/55. Class 62. An extendable dog lead in the form of a flexible tape is mounted within a plastic casing on a rotatable reel controlled by a return spring. As shown, a nylon tape lead 11 mounted on a reel 12 passes through a slot 17 in a plastic casing 13 and is terminated by a snap hook 25. A spring 14 attached to the reel and to a spigot 15 on which the reel rotates urges the lead into the casing. When extended, the lead is automatically locked in position by engagement of projections 22 on a release button 19 with ratchet teeth 21 pressed in the reel, and release is effected by depressing the button against the reaction of a helical compression spring 29. The reel has further projections 23 to space it from the casing. It is stated that the casing may either be carried in the hand or fitted to the harness of the dog.
