A catch for a wrist band comprises a metal strip 6 having a series of ratchet teeth 13 and adapted to be connected to one end 2 of a band, a box 4 adapted to be connected at one end to the other end 1 of the band and having a tooth 7 for selectively engaging a ratchet tooth 13 of the strip 6 whereby the band may be varied in length, a lever 8 pivoted on the box 4 and adapted on pivotal movement towards the box to move the strip 6 towards the tooth 7 of the box and to press the tooth and a ratchet tooth 13 into engagement, and means to prevent accidental pivotal movement of the lever 8 away from the box and consequent disengagement of the teeth 7 and 13. As shown, the lever 8, which constitutes a cover of the box 4, is retained in the closed position by the engagement of a tooth 12 with a bar 11 extending transversely of the box and is prevented from accidental movement away from the box by a spring-loaded slidable strip 14 which engages a notch 20 at the free end of a lever 17 pivoted to the lever 8, when the latter is in closed position. The lever 17 is urged outwardly of lever 8 by a spring 21 and in the closed position is flush with the lever 8.
