Abstract
920,691. Surgical retractors. J. SKLAR MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. Jan. 2, 1962, No. 202/62. Class 81 (2). A surgical retractor, of the type comprising pivoted members 12, 14 with hooks 30, 32 at one end and finger loops 22, 24 at the other, has a ratchet sector 34 attached to one handle and a pawl member 40 pivoted to the other. The latter member 40 is urged into engagement with the ratchet 34 by a blade spring 54 and has, formed integrally with it, a releasing member 48 and an engaging member 50. These are arranged with a space 52 between them so that the forefinger can be placed therein to move the pawl in either desired direction. The member 50 is sufficiently long to serve as a guard and thus prevent the possibility of the user's gloves becoming caught or damaged by the ratchet.
