A clothes peg comprises an inverted U-shaped member 1 adapted to straddle the clothes line and a lever 7 pivotally attached to one of the limbs 4 of the member which is forked for the purpose, one portion 8 of the lever being adapted to co-operate with the other limb 2 of the member to grip the clothes line, the two co-operating parts having serrations or notches 3, 9 to improve the grip. A plurality of ribs 15 on the portion 8 co-operate with a groove 16 inside the fork of the limb 4 to lock the lever in any desired position.
