657,022. Hollow-ware; closures. WELLSEALS, Ltd. April 1, 1947, No. 8804. Divided out of 651,514. [Classes 66 and 125(iii)] In a can or like container in which the closure member 49 is provided with a sealing ring 50 so secured in a groove 51 around the opening in the top ring 48 of the can that the sealing ring must be damaged before the closure member can b e removed, the groove 51, as seen in cross-section, slopes outwardly from the axis of the opening so as to expand the flange of the sealing ring pressed into it. As shown, Fig. 3, the base of groove 51 abuts the wall of the can for support during the pressing operation. The groove may also receive a complete or part ring 52 formed with a spout 53 which, when the opening in the top ring is eccentric, can be moved round from a position for pouring. The axial flange 75 of the sealing ring may be plain or, as shown, Fig. 5, notched, a weakening notch 74 also being provided opposite a slit 77 in the flange so that the ring can be broken by lifting a tab 72.
