Abstract

1304675 Vacuum closures THOMASSEN & DRIJVER VERBLIFA NV 19 April 1971 [29 Jan 1970] 26687/71 Heading B8T A vacuum closure for a jar or container is is made of easily deformable metal, i.e. aluminium or thin gauge tin plate, and comprises a top portion with an integral downwardly extending skirt portion having inwardly directed teeth or projections to engage the mouth of the container; four vertical score lines, cuts or slits 1, 2, 3, 4 are provided on the skirt, two 1, 2 defining a tab which is pulled up to release the vacuum in the container, the remaining two 3, 4 diametrically opposed to provide a line of weakness about which the half 3-1-2-4 can hinge to disengage the closure from the container mouth. A deformation in the form of a bulge or depression is provided at point 5 to obtain the most efficient folding of the material of the closure in the vicinity of the tab, so that the vacuum is quickly broken as the tab is pulled upwards.
