Abstract

766,165. Containers; stoppers. METAL BOX CO., Ltd. April 21, 1955 [June 18, 1954]. No. 18038/54. Classes 66 and 125(3). A closure device for a container includes a calibrated transparent or translucent measuring cup 6 which depends open side downwards into the container when the closure device is in position, the cup having a tapering exterior portion 11 to form a seal with the neck of the container. The closure device may be a screwthreaded metal cap 1 co-operating with corresponding screw-threads 3 on the neck 4 of the container. The closed end of the measuring cup 6 has a flange 7 of compressible material co-operating with the rim 9 of the neck 4 so'as to form a seal between it and the cap 1. The tapered portion 11 on the cup engages the inner surface 12 of the neck to form a further seal. The measuring cup 6 is captive in, but rotatable relatively to, the cap 1. Internally the cup 6 increases in diameter in steps from its base, the resulting ridges 13, 14 being used as measures of volume when the closure device is removed and the contents of the container are poured into the cup. In other arrangements the cap 1 is of a plastic material separate from or integral with the cup 6. Instead of a screw-on closure, a friction fitting or other kind of closure may be used. The cup may be of polythene.
