Abstract
655,702. Furnace roofs. VEITSCHER MAGNESITWERKE-AKT.-GES. Sept. 25, 1948, No. 25078. Convention date, Aug. 23, 1940. [Class 51(ii)] A suspended open hearth furnace arch comprises supporting ribs each consisting of an arched row of bricks 1 fastened securely by wire loops 9 in contact with an arched girder 10 suspended as at 7 by tie rods or wire loops from framework girders 3, interposed between and supporting blocks of loose bricks 2, the skew backs 12 being held by springs 14. The wire loops 9 may be formed from a single continuous length of wire and in a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the girder 10 is replaced by a strap which is placed under tension by spring devices at each end, said devices being connected to the furnace framework.
