Abstract

554,473. Arches ; crowns ; roofs. SUMMERS & SONS, Ltd., J., and JONES, H. Jan. 2, 1942, No. 55. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] A furnace arch, crown or roof is formed of a number of blocks 2 having dovetail ends 3, Figs. 1 and 7, suspended by clips 4, from overhead girders 6 and downwardly tapering interlocking ribs 13 and grooves 14 on their sides. Blocks 1 having plain ends and downwardly tapering ribs and grooves as described in Specification 554,472 may be arranged between the blocks 2. The blocks may be tapered from top to bottom. The arch &c. is arranged in a number of independent sections the sides of the blocks of one section engaging with the sides of the blocks of an adjacent section on a plain surface. The ribs and grooves of the blocks are not symmetrically disposed so that when the blocks are assembled they contact in broken bond.
