Abstract

655,539. Moulding-machines. SMITH, Ltd., C. & B., SMITH, A. B., and SMITH, C. R. Dec. 22, 1948, No. 33006. [Class 83 (i)] In a method of packing sand into a core box by blowing in which sand is conveyed into a blower head by air under pressure, an additional supply of boosting air under pressure is made direct to the blowing head. Sand from a container 10 with a cover 16 is blown by air supplied at an inlet 18 through an aperture 21 and into a cavity 27 formed in the underside of a plate 13 below which is a plate 14 formed with perforations 30 leading into the core box 15. A supply of boosting air at an inlet 24 in a plate 12 passes into a distributing chamber 25 formed in the upperside of the plate 13 and then passes into the cavity 27 through a number of small passages 26 in the plate 13.
