Abstract

653,566. Power plant. NATIONAL GAS & OIL ENGINE CO., Ltd., JONES, J., and SMITH, J. May 7, 1948, No. 12645. [Class 7(ii)] To reduce the length of the gear box A of an internal-combustion engine powerplant, in which two or more engine shafts drive a common shaft 13 through oiloperated friction clutches, pinions on the engine shafts engage a common pinion on the shaft 13 and the opposite faces of all the pinions are in two common planes transverse to the shaft 13. The clutches are controlled simultaneously by a central cock or individually, as regards forward and reverse working, by separate cocks. In one form of clutch each pinion is divided into two helical toothed wheels with a common hydraulic friction driven-member between. The friction clutches may be as described in Specifications 382,865 and 438,563, [both in Group XXIV].
