Abstract
651.049. Vehicle wheels. NORDON & CO. (COVENTRY), Ltd., F. W., and PARRY, A. E. Aug. 20, 1948, Nos. 21978/48 and 6833/49. [Class 144 (i)] A fairing disc is secured at the outer side of a wheel by means of bridging-members which are forced into clamping abutment with the inner periphery of the rim and the peripheral edges of recessed portions of the wheel body by threaded studs housed in the recesses and engaging the fairing disc directly or through an ornamental ring seated in a circumferential groove in the disc. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the bridges are of angle-section, the vertical limb 29 engaging the wheel-rim 20, the other limb being slotted to provide oppositely inclined fingers 31, 32, 33 between which the axial flanges 24 on the wheel body 21 under the recesses 23 are clamped by the bolts 27. As shown, the latter are covered by an ornamental ring 26 seated in the fairing-disc 25. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the bridge-piece is a casting with lugs 28a, 28b stepped at 34 to engage the flange-edges 24 of the wheel body. In a further modification, the bridge-piece consists of a flat arcuate strip drawn into abutting engagement with the wheel-rim and the edge of the wheel-flange. In a still further modification the bridge-piece is formed in two circumferentially-adjustable parts.
