Abstract

580,613. Vehicle wheels. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. July 7, 1944, No. 13023. Convention date, July 21, 1943. [Class 144 (ii)] In a rim comprising a fixed flange 12 and a detachable flange 18 a coned ring 21 is detachably fitted on the cylindrical edge-portion of the rim-base 11 to provide a wedge-seating for the associated tyre-bead 13. In the construction shown, the ring 21 is split and carries a non- creep stud 23 adapted to engage the transverse valve-slot 19 in the rim-base. The outer (thicker) edge of the ring is flared to seat against the curved base of the flange 18 which is housed in a groove 17 in the rim. The flange 18 may be of the split, or endless, type.
