[Class 35] [Also in Group XL (a)] The focusing flux between the poles 2, 2<SP>1</SP> of a mass spectrometer apparatus is varied by a rotating cylindrical magnet 6 inserted in the magnetic circuit 4. The magnet may be operated by a motor or by a handle 8 and has a pointer 9 moving over a scale 10.
