Abstract
Active carbon is manufactured by carbonizing a carbonaceous material, e.g. wood, coal, coke, peat, lignite, or vegetable waste with or without a carbonizing agent such as zinc chloride, or active carbon prepared otherwise is improved, by dielectric heating of high frequency, i.e. greater than 500,000 cycles/sec. In another process active carbon produced or regenerated by heating to a temperature of at least 800 DEG C. and activating, with a gas such as steam, oxygen, air, carbon dioxide, chlorine or a chemical such as zinc chloride, phosphoric acid, a potassium salt, ferrous sulphate, sodium hydroxide, or lime, may also be subjected, prior to, simultaneously with, or subsequently to this treatment, to high-frequency dielectric heating.
