Abstract

649,353. Bearings. GARRISON MACHINE WORKS, Inc. May 26, 1948, No. 14258. [Class 12 (i)] A split hollow bearing for a shaft 1 has two separable bearing sections with chambers 5 formed therein to receive a heat exchange medium, means for circulating the heat exchange medium, and means remote from the chambers 5 are thermostatically controlled so as to maintain the shaft and its bearings at a substantially constant temperature which is at least as high as the maximum temperature they would ordinarily have developed. The bearing sections are connected through conduits 8a, 8b, 8 with a reservoir 7 containing the heat exchange medium and a pump 9 may be included in the circuit. The return circuit is completed by conduits 10a, 10b, 10. The temperature of the heat exchange medium is controlled by a heater 11 in conjunction with a thermostatic regulator 12. The bearing is disposed in a housing 2 which is recessed to form a lubricant reservoir. Specification 559,881 is referred to.
