Abstract

666,330. Bending; spinning; stamping. REDWING, Ltd., and NUNN, G. W. Feb. 1, 8950 [Dec. 21, 1948], No. 32971/48. Class 13 (iv). In order to keep magnesium-zirconium or other light alloy at desired temperature during pressing, bending, spinning or like operation it is passed from a preheating bath to the forming tools while keeping its temperature uniform and within the desired working range. The tools may also be arranged in the bath or be heated by circulating hot fluid from the bath 1 through said tools 5, 6 or their holders by a pump 12. To compensate for loss of heat by the work 7 the bath may be kept at a higher temperature than the tools and for this purpose a thermostatically controlled by-pass 13 may be used. The temperature of the bath may be controlled by a thermostat 10 or with the aid of a thermometer. A suitable fluid for the bath is oil sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Cylrex." Working at specifced temperatures.-When forming a magnesium-zirconium alloy the tool may be kept at 275‹ C. and the bath, if the tool is not immersed, at about 300‹ C.
