Abstract

568,870. Embossing. HIGH DUTY ALLOYS, Ltd., and HERON, .J. A. Nov. 15, 1943, No. 18985. [Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] In stamping sheet material by the direct application of fluid pressure, particularly sheets of magnesium or magnesium alloy, the fluid is supplied heated in order to heat the work to the best working temperature. The sheet 5 to be shaped according to the die 1 is clamped between the die and a member 2 formed at 3 with surfaces to act both as seals for the fluid and as draw rings for the sheet. Fluid is supplied at 10 preferably through a plunp and pressure transformer, a heater being interposed between the transformer and the member 2. Modified forms of sealing surfaces are illustrated. The fluid is preferably oil, but if temperatures above 300‹ C. are required, a liquid such as metadiphenylbenzene is used.
