Abstract

The life of pressing, drawing, or stamping tools of steel, alloy steel, brass, or bronze is prolonged by rapidly cooling prior to use, from high temperatures which in the case of steel and alloy steel lie between 300 DEG C. and the Ar1 point and in the case of brass or bronze between 400 and 700 DEG C. In an example, a roller composed of an alloy steel containing 0,8 per cent of carbon and 1,4 per cent of chromium is suddenly cooled from 480 DEG C. in water to about 20 DEG C. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 309,132, [Class 72], and 373,453.
