Abstract
An austenitic stainless steel has the following composition: Cr 12-22 per cent, Ni 10-21 per cent, P 0.05-0.5 per cent, C 0.01-0.15 per cent, Mn 0.1-20. per cent, Mo 2-4 per cent, Cu 2-4 per cent, Ti 0.15-0.75 per cent, Nb 0.2-1.1 per cent, Fe the remainder. Up to about 0.06 per cent S and up to about 0.6 per cent Si may be present as impurities. The alloy may be annealed at 2050 DEG -2250 DEG F. and hardened at 1200 DEG -1500 DEG F. Working and forming operations may be performed between the annealing and hardening steps. Use of the alloys in gas turbine equipment, internal combustion engine parts and chemical equipment is referred to. Specifications 400,747, 428,950 and 649,023 are referred to.
