Abstract

648,042. Gas-blast switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and ROXBURGH, A. Nov. 11, 1948, No. 29340. [Class 38(v)] In a gas-blast circuit-breaker in which the supply of compressed gas for arc extinction is obtained from a slow-burning explosive cartridge, the gas from the cartridge is arranged to flow through an injector nozzle arranged so that air is induced from the atmosphere into the supply of hot gas. The resulting mixture of gases is then applied to the blast head or contacts of the circuit-breaker and may also be used to cause the opening of the contacts and the opening of a series isolating switch if provided. Means may be provided for automatically replacing a used cartridge after the circuit-breaking operation has occurred. Specifications 548,103, 570,496 and 583,345 are referred to.
