[Class 26] In a flushing cistern for water-closets of the type in which a rising and falling siphon-bell, provided with one or more inlet valves, fits over the top of a standpipe b, the siphon-bell comprises an upper cylindrical portion c<SP>1</SP>, a lower portion c of substantially larger diameter than the upper portion, these two portions being connected by a middle portion c<SP>11</SP> of frustoconical or other divergent shape externally, and the mouth of the lower portion is fitted with a base-plate e slidable along the stand-pipe; the base-plate is provided with apertures e<SP>11</SP> normally sealed by the inlet valves resting upon it. In the form shown, the lower portion c is cylindrical, the middle portion c<SP>11</SP> is toroidal internally, and the inlet valves are formed by an annular plate f. The latter may have peripheral guiding wings with rubber or other limiting and silencing buffers. According to the first Provisional Specification, the middle and lower portions of the siphon-bell may be continuously conoidal, and the inlet valves in the form of hinged flap valves. The stand-pipe may carry a stationary inner bell g corresponding in, shape to the upper and middle portions of the siphon-bell and with its lower edge fitting closely to the wall of the lower portion c. The closed end g<SP>11</SP> of the inner bell is spaced from the upper end of the standpipe by legs i<SP>1</SP>, and the siphon-bell has a small central hole h<SP>1</SP>.
