Abstract
617,987. Disinfecting &c. apparatus for waterwaste preventers. GOUGH, F. W. July 17, 1946, No. 21360. [Class 26] In apparatus for discharging a predetermined quantity of disinfectant or deodorizing liquid with the water discharged from a flushing cistern when the level of water in the cistern drops to a predetermined level, a hollow 'valve 4 slidable in a sleeve 3 at the bottom of a container 1 forms a measuring chamber for the entire quantity of disinfectant or deodorizing liquid to be discharged at each flush, and when in the raised position is closed to the outside but open to the inside of the container, and when lowered is first closed to the inside and afterwards opened to the outside of the container to discharge its contents into the cistern. The valve 4 may be cylindrical with upper and lower slots 6, 7 and with a conical cap 10 which facilitates escape of air through the slots 6 into the container when the valve is being filled, whilst the sleeve 3 may have slots 8 which allow air from the cistern to enter the slots 6 when the valve is discharging. The valve is carried by a float 5 the downward movement of which is limited by a cage 9. The container 1 may be separate from or cast integrally with the cistern.
