Abstract

221,079. Mitchell, D. G. E., and Pearson, M. Sept. 4, 1923. Closets, disinfecting.-An appliance f o r automatically delivering a quantity of liquid disinfectant to water-closet basins, cisterns, and the like after flushing has ceased comprises a container a having a partition d to the underside of which is fitted a cock e delivering into a reservoir h and operable from outside. Attached to the container a is a conical end-piece terminating in a discharge orifice f to which a pipe g is connected; the reservoir h, as shown in Fig. 2, occupies about one-half the sectional area of the cone. A tipping-pan k is mounted above the reservoir h on a rocking-shaft j which extends outside the casing and is coupled by an arm p to the rod o of a piston n working in a cylinder l. The cylinder l is open to the atmosphere at the bottom and carries a pipe m at the top. In operation pipe m is connected to the flush pipe and pipe g to the water-closet basin or the like. The container a is filled with disinfectant through the orifice b which is then closed by the plug c. The cock e is opened so that the reservoir h is automatically filled to a suitable level. When flushing occurs, the pressure in the cylinder l is reduced and the piston n raised, thereby causing the pan k to be immersed in the liquid contained in the reservoir h. When flushing ceases, the piston descends and the pan is invented, throwing a quantity of disinfectant into the cone from which it passes by the pipe g into the basin.
