DANIEL CABRAL, 0F GUADALAJ'ARA, MEXICO.
FLUSH-TANK FOR WATER-CLOSETS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 4, 1913.
Application filed September 19, 1911. Serial No. 650,229.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL GABRAL, a citizen of Mexico, residing at Guadalajara, Mexico, have invented new and useful Improvements in Flush-Tanks for Water- Glosets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to flush tanks and more particularly to those which are adapted to be used in connection with water closets for the flushing bowls thereof.
One of the principal obj ects of the invention is to avoid the use of flushing valves such as devices which are constantly getting out of order and which increase the cost of production of the flushing apparatus.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a device of this character having a water displacing float which carries a siphoning device for causing the discharge of the water in the tank.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical section view. Fig. 2 is a top plan View.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents an ordinary tank which is supported in any suitable manner and which has leading t-hereinto a water supply pipe 2 having a valve 3 secured thereto. Extending into the tank is a suitable discharge pipe l which projects vertically and above the normal water level indicated at 5.
Pivotally mounted to the end 6 of the tank is a substantially wedge-shaped float 7 which has an area almost equal to the area of the tank and which has passing therethrough an inverted cup or bell 8 which surrounds the discharge pipe and has its lower end sheared oil as shown at 9 to aline with the bottom when the float is depressed as will hereinafter he described. The upper end of the bell 8 is provided with an apertured bracket 10 through which the valve operating lever 11 is adapted to pass. This lever is pivoted between cars 12 on the valve casing 3 and operates the plunger 13 as is shown. At the free end of the float and right angular arm 14 is connected an operating chain or member 15 which extends downwardly preferably adj acentthe deposit bowl.
By pulling downwardly upon the chain, the float will be depressed and will displace the water in the tank and change its level. When this is done, the air in the bell above the water line will be forced out through the flushing pipe 4 and as the water rises, will flow over the upper end and down through the flushing pipe, the suction thereof and of the water passing through said pipe causing a siphoning action which removes all the water from the tank. The depression of the flow also causes the opening of the valve 3 and as the tank fills up, the float and siphoning bell are raised until the lever 11 closes the valve and cuts oil the supply.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new, is
In a flushing apparatus, the combination with a tank having a supply pipe connected thereto, of a flushing pipe extending into the tank, a triangular float having its narrow end pivoted to the wall of the tank, a hollow member secured to and extending through the float, and surrounding the upper end of the flushing pipe, said hollow member having an angular sheared bottom, a rod connected to the upper free end of the float and extending above the tank and having a lateral extension, a chain connected to the lateral extension for depressing the free end of the float, a supply valve connected in the supply pipe above the hinging point of the float, an operating lever therefor, and an apertured lug connected to the hollow member and adapted to freely receive said operating lever whereby when the float is depressed the lever will be operated to open the valve.
In testimony whereo-fI aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
