798,469. Sanitary closets. TWYFORDS, Ltd. May 6, 1957 [July 25, 1956], No. 22930/56. Class 26. In a syphonic-discharge water-closet basin 1 of the kind comprising a bowl 2 with a discharge passage 4 having two traps 5, 6 between which is a space 7, water enters the basin 1 through an inlet opening into a chamber 8, a hollow rim 9, and flushing outlets 10, 11 therefrom and an air chamber 12 is formed inside the body of the basin adjacent the chamber 8, communicating with the space 7 by the passage 13, the inlet being a pipe 18 passing through the chamber 12 and having apertures 26 whereby flow of water therethrough extracts air from the space 7 to promote syphonic action. Outlets 10 and 11 are for an initial flush and an afterflush respectively. The openings 15 and 16 are sealed by rings of rubber or like yieldable material carried by the pipe 18 and held in place by an attachment 24. Each aperture 26 is associated with a cowl 27. The rear end of the discharge passage 4 may be directed in one of two ways. The Provisional Specification describes also the provision of a venturi restriction rearwards of the cowls. In a modification thereof the inlet pipe or conduit comprises two integral and co-axial portions forming an annular interior pocket with slots on the outer wall for air-extraction through the pocket when water flows through the pipe.
