Abstract
693,793. Disinfecting water closets and the like. WITTWER, R. May 10, 1951 [May 12, 1950; Jan. 11, 1951], No. 10993/51. Class 26 An apparatus for adding disinfectant to the scavenging water of water closets, urinals and the like, and which comprises a reserve chamber 7 for addition liquid, an outflowing duct 22 and a valve 24 in the duct and controlled by the scavenging water, is characterized in that it comprises a mixing chamber 6 opening to the duct 22, an intake and discharge canal 13 for the mixing chamber (which canal is connected to the scavenging pipe), an obturator 46 in the canal 13 and a float 19, in the mixing chamber, which controls both the valve 24 and the obturator 46. The canal 13 is connected by a nipple 12 to a pipe (not shown), the end of which projects into the flush pipe. When the flush commences, flushing water enters the chamber 6 via the pipe connected to the flush pipe and raises the asymmetric float 19, which is simultaneously partially rotated by an inclined pin 43 and bracket 45, so that the conical end of the finger 42, connected to the float by a rod 39, lifts the end 37 of the latch 27. The latch lifts the valve 24, via the rod 25, and thus allows disinfectant stored in the chamber 7 to enter the mixing chamber 6. As it continues to rise, however, the finger 42 slips off the latch end 37 (which is formed obliquely) so that the valve 24 closes. Meanwhile the float 19 continues to rise, and finally the obturator 46 connected to the underside closes the inlet 13. At the end of the flush, the pressure of the liquid stored in the chamber 6 is greater than that of the water in the flush pipe and this liquid discharges into the flush pipe. The float 19 may be (a) asymmetric and asymmetrically placed, as shown, (b) of 'annular form, or (c) a symmetrical body having sufficient clearance or an asymmetrically placed hole to provide sufficient space for the mixing of the disinfectant and the water in the chamber 6.
