768,993. Flushing cisterns. SPEDDING, B. May 3, 1954 [Feb. 2, 1953 ; Feb. 2, 1953], Nos. 2856/53 and 2857/53. Class 26. The outlet pipe 1 of a flushing cistern is provided with a connector 3 to a closet pan 13 providing a reservoir of water 21 the surface of which is at a distance A beneath the outlet pipe, A being not greater than D/4, where D is the nominal diameter of the outlet pipe. In an alternative construction the lower part of the portion 15 is itself arranged to be at a distance A beneath the pipe 1, this part acting in the same way as the water surface shown to prevent air entering the pipe 1 to reduce the syphonic action of the cistern.
