832,645. Sanitary closets. JOHNS & CO. Ltd., E., and STOTT, C. K. Aug. 5, 1958 [July 13, 1957], No. 22257/57. Class 26. In a water closet of the kind which has a flushing cistern 1 combined therewith as a suite by being close coupled to and supported from a platform 2 at the rear of the flushing basin having two traps, the intervening space having an air extraction pipe 10 within a discharge pipe, or a depending extension 9 thereof, through which the water enters the basin serving to initiate thereby a syphonic discharge of the basin the pipe 10 mounts a non-resilient rigid, generally flat member such as a washer 13, to make a substantially leakproof joint against the floor 12 of the flushing inlet 3 in the region of the opening 11. In, Fig. 1, the washer 13 has two recesses 14 with peripheral flanges 15, but there may be only one such recess. The floor 12 may have a recess in the region of the opening 11, into which the washer 13 can enter and bed against the base of the recess. Alternatively, the washer 13 may engage the head of a sleeve fastened coaxially to the opening 11 and extending above the floor, or the floor may be raised to form a flat minor shelf on which the washer can rest. The lower part of the pipe 10 may have a stop 17 for retention of the washer 13. Specification 820,833 is referred to.
