Abstract

643,794. Feeding webs. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Jan. 21, 1948, No. 1821. [Class 100 (i)] [Also in Group XVII] In an apparatus for feeding paper, film, foil or other material to wrapping machines a controlling member moves into engagement with the leading edge of a wrapper, so as to control such edge during the feeding movement, an attractive force induced by a charge of static electricity, existing between the wrapper and controlling member to effect such control. Wrapping material in web form 11 is fed over a table 12 by feed rollers 14 towards a cutting device 13 beyond which the leading edge of the web is supported by the controlling member 17 having a surface layer 18 of material susceptible to a static charge. The member 17 moves with the same speed as the web 11 and in the same direction towards folders 22. When the web reaches the folding station the feeding motion is stopped and the cutting device 13 severs a wrapper 16. An article 19 supported on a platform 21 is moved upwardly into engagement with the wrapper 16 and into a pocket 23 of a member 24 rotatably mounted on a shaft 26. The controlling member 17 them moves into contact with a brush 27 to restore its static charge. The movements of the member 17 are controlled by cams 34 and 38. The web may be given a static charge in place of the surface 18 of the member 17.
