Abstract

713,269. Wrapping-machines. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Sept. 25, 1952 [Sept. 29, 1951], No. 22777/51. Class 94 (1) In a wrapping machine of the kind in which articles are fed from a pocketed conveyer into separate pockets -of an intermittently movable folding .member the wrappers being cut from a web and fed in succession across the path of movement of the articles so that an article and wrapper are together fed into a folding member pocket the rollers feeding the wrapper web are intermittently driven by a Geneva mechanism the crank portion of which is slidably movable into engagement with the wheel portion to thereby effect rotation of the rollers by means controlled by an article detecting device operating on the conveyer. In the apparatus shown sweets 11 lying in. pockets 12 of an intermittently rotating table 13 are moved to a position where they are thrust upwards by a reciprocating pusher 14 into the pockets of an intermittently rotating moulding wheel 16. Prior to this upward movement a wrapper 17, out from a web is laid over the sweet so as to be moved upwards with it, a member 19, which also moves upwards nipping the wrapper against the sweet just before it it is engaged by the pusher. The web is fed by rollers 21, 22, the lower one. 21, of which is intermittently driven by a Geneva mechanism enclosed in a box 24. The actuation of the mechanism may be stopped by a sweet detecting device which comprises a rockable lever 52, one end of which is formed with a feeler 54 whilst the other end is connected via a link 51 to the end 50 of a two arm rockable lever 49, 50. The lever 52 is rocked by a spring urged link 53 in timed relation with the movement of the pockets 12 in the table 13. When the feeler fails to locate a sweet in a pocket 12 the feeler descends into the pocket and the arm 49 of the two arm lever, which is disposed within the box 24, drops lower than usual, thus halting the oscillating of a device, comprising arms 43 37 (the former spring loaded) connected by a link 42, which causes a continuously rotating Geneva crank member 29, axially slidable along a shaft 31, to move into and out of engagement with a Geneva wheel 27. This wheel drives. through a shaft 23, the web feed rollers. The arm 37 of the oscillating device has a forked extension 38 both the arm and extension carrying rollers 39 arranged to bear in an annular recess 41 in the crank. The oscillating movement is imparted to the device by a spring loaded cam roller 44 carried by the arm 43 bearing against the surface of a rotatable face cam 46 secured to the shaft 31. When the crank is axially displaced from the wheel 27 rotation of the latter is checked by a disc 34 formed on the crank whilst a segment 33, also formed on the crank, checks rotation of the wheel when the crank is in engagement with it but the roller 32 is not engaged within a slot 28. Specification 703,422 is referred to.
