Abstract
1,103,279. Ironing-machines. SOC. POUR L'EQUIPEMENT DE LA BLANCHISSERIE ET DE LA TEINTURERIE FRANCAISES and H. L. L. JESUS. 22 Feb., 1965 [21 Feb., 1964], No. 7510/65. Headings D1A and D1S. An ironing machine comprises a rotary cylinder 1, a stationary trough 3 and a feeding device comprising a movable conveying surface 7 extending substantially over the major part of the width of the machine, the surface 7 being adapted to flatten the articles L to be ironed and to move in the same direction as the direction of movement of the periphery of the cylinder 1, and anti-adherent means 10 to prevent the articles from adhering to the surface 7 and from coming up against the front edge of the trough 3. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the articles L are supplied by a conveyor 4, passing over a nose 5 and a return roll 6, and then move between the trough 3 and the cylinder 1 which is fitted with a felt cover 2 and rotates in the direction of the arrow F. The conveying surface is formed by a roll 7 having annular grooves (8), Fig. 2 (not shown), and is mounted in a floating manner so as to rest freely either on the cover 2 or on the articles L thereon. The roller 7 may be freely rotating or driven by an independent motor. The means 10 comprises a deflector comb fixed to the trough 3 at 11 and formed with fingers 9 which pass one into each groove (8). The ends of the fingers 9 are joined by an angle-iron 12 yieldingly applied against the trough 3 whilst the finger ends are yielding applied beneath a lip 3a. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the cylinder (1) rotates in the direction (F') opposite to the direction F and the articles (L) are introduced in the downward direction by a device similar to that of Fig. 1. Bearing means (not shown) are provided to prevent the roll (7) from moving downwards and rubbing against the edge of the trough (13). In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, the feeding device comprises a number of spaced parallel narrow endless belts 34 which pass over a roll 35 driven by a motor 36 and which contact, over part of their length, the conveyor 4 and the articles L thereon. The belts 34 also pass over as L-shaped guide 37 adjustable both longitudinally and angularly. Figures 38 are fixed to the guide 37 and are yieldingly applied beneath a lip 33a of the trough 33. In any of the embodiments, air blowing means may be provided to assist in applying the articles against the cylinder 1.
