[Class 42 (i)] [Also in Group XVI] An appliance for laying fabric webs 10 in folds prior to feeding a tentering or other machine, has located behind fabric feed-rollers 5, 6, 1, which are driven at a uniform adjustable speed, a pair of more slowly-driven cylindrical fabric feed brushes 2, a portion of the periphery of each co-operating with a trough 4 whose concave curvature corresponds with the curvature of the periphery of the brush 2 so that the folds in the fabric 10 resulting from the difference in the peripheral speed of the feed rollers 5, 6, 1, on the one hand and the brushes 2, on the other hand, are brushed through the trough and on to the conveyer bands provided to transport the fabric in its folded condition away from the troughs. The feed rollers 5, 6, and the feed rollers 1, are driven at the same peripheral speed from an adjustable speed motor and feed the web 10, into frictional contact with the rotary cylindrical brushes 2 mounted on a shaft 7, and arranged above the stationary troughs 4. The brushes 2 are driven by means of a belt 3<SP>1</SP> travelling round a pulley 22 driven by chain 23 from a constant driving source which also drives, through chains 25, 26 an endless belt 3 travelling around pulleywheels 24, 13, 12. The two belts 3, 31 serve to assist the feeding of the fabric 10 to the needle strips or clips 20. A similar device is provided at the right-hand edge of the strip and each cylindrical brush 2 can be swung away from its trough by pivoting the lever 7a about its shaft 28.
