Undulations formed in a fabric web 3 prior to tentering are brushed on to the pin bars 6 of a tenter chain 1 and are held down thereon beyond the brushing-on region. The web 3 is fed at a speed exceeding that of the chain 1 on to a corrugated band 2 and a roller 4 encircled by a ring of foam rubber or foam plastic presses the edge of the web 3 into the troughs of the band 2. A brush roller 5 mounted on a shaft 14 coaxially with the roller 4 brushes the edges of the web 3 on to the pin bars 6. In one embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2, a fixed bar 7 of round or flat cross-section and having upwardly curved ends is disposed between the rollers 4, 5 so that the web 3 cannot be lifted off the pins by the brush. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3, the web 3 is held on the pins by a continuously-moving endless band 8 passing around a pulley 9 on the shaft 14 and disposed between the rollers 4, 5 and around a small return roller 10. In a further embodiment, Figs. 6 and 7, a thin annular disc 11 is coupled to rotate with the rollers 4, 5 by pins 13 extending through two diametrically opposite slots 12. The disc 11 has a concentric opening therein and rides on an eccentric disc 16 keyed to the shaft 14 on which the rollers 4, 5 are freely mounted so as to be rotatable relative thereto, the roller 4 being driven by the band 3. The disc 16 is adjusted so that the periphery of the disc 11 projects the maximum amount in the region shown. In a still further embodiment (not shown) the rollers 4, 5 are replaced by a single roller encircled by a brush. The bar 7 may be disposed in a peripheral groove in the brush.
