Abstract

643,420. Thermal switches. JOSEPH, Ltd., N. C., and JOSEPH, B. C. April 20, 1948, No. 10845. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group XIII] A thermal cut-out switch comprises a bimetal strip 4 which is mounted on one side of an insulating base 2 and bent at 5 to press on a stud 6 sliding in the base and having a radial extension 14 which engages on the other side of the base the mid-limb 9 of a trifurcated snap-action switch blade 8 thereby breaking the contact between it and a conducting plate 12 on the switch base 2 when the strip is distorted. When the strip cools the pressure on the stud is relieved and the blade 8 closes the contact. The switch is preferably built into a tube 1 with an enlarged chamber which receives the insulating base 2, and the strip is in line with the direction of movement of the stud 6.
