Abstract

677,161. Thermal switches. LUCAS, Ltd., J. Nov. 29, 1850. [Dec. 31, 1949] No. 33484/49. Class 38 (v). [Also in Group XIII] In a thermally-operated snap-action switch, a sheet of bimetal a is slotted at b to form a tongue c which is anchored to the base at d and an anchorage e, is also provided for the end of the sheet a adjacent the tongue. The tension exerted by the anchorage e on the sheet is adjustable by a screw f. In the form shown the tongue is heated by current flowing through it and flexes to cause a snap opening of contacts g, m. Alternatively, a heating coil may be used.
