Abstract

647,553. Thermal switches; snap-action switches. BELLING & LEE, Ltd. Feb. 3, 1948, No. 3177. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group XXXII] A snap-acting spring strip 5 for use in a switch requiring a low operating differential, has a stamped-out contact-carrying tongue 6 and a side 11 formed with a depression 12 on the inner edge, whereby that edge is given a greater length than the corresponding outer edge and the strip tends to curve concave upwardly. One end 8 of the strip is fixed and the other end 7 engaged by a bimetal strip 24 adjustably mounted on a spring 25. On increase of temperature the strip 24 deflects downwards and inverts the curvature of the depression 12 and the contact-carrying end 13 of the tongue 6 leaves the fixed contact 2.3. A slight decrease in temperature suffices for the bimetal to bend upwardly and permit the strip 5 to revert to its original shape.
