Abstract
643,250. Cables. TELEGRAPH CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE CO., Ltd. Aug. 31, 1948, No. 22963. [Class 36] In a high-frequency cable of the type in which an inner conductor A is surrounded by cellular insulation B, the inner conductor is constructed so as to be extensible when subjected to longitudinal strain. The inner conductor may include non-extensible portions which are connected together by extensible portions. The extensible parts of the conductor may be given a sinuous or zig-zag form, or may be coiled into a helix 3. The application of longitudinal strain causes the crimped portions of the conductor to straighten out until the strain is removed. When the dielectric, which may be expanded polyethylene, is applied by extrusion, the conductor may be passed through a crimping device immediately before entering the extrusion machine. The cable may be completed by the application of an outer conductor or screen and an outer sheath. Specification 629,668, [Group IV (a)], is referred to.
