Abstract

642,507. Stays for hinged articles. AUSTER, Ltd., and SMALL, W. W. Sept. 18, 1948, No. 24484. [Class 65(i)] An end-guided stay for an angularly movable windscreen or other panel is adapted to be secured to the guidepart by means of a locking member which is carried by the stay and is movable, in a plane substantially parallel to the plane, of the panel, by a cam part on an arm or lever to engage one or other of a plurality of notches in the guide. The locking member. in the form of a boss 10 pivotally disposed in the end of a stay 3, slidably engages a channel-shaped guide member 4 formed with a slot 8 in its base and in its sides with spaced apart notches 9 adapted to be engaged by projections 12 on the boss. A bolt 13, passing through the boss and slot, carries an arm 14 formed with cams 18 which, as shown, lie across the base of the channel and draw the projections and notches into engagement. When moved through 90 degrees the cams are drawn into the slot by a spring 17 disposed between the channel and the boss, to free the latter. The arm is also formed with a hook adapted to fasten the panel in the closed position. The Provisional Specification states that the cam may be replaced by a quick-acting screw.
