Abstract
766,684. Stays for hinged articles. LANE, Ltd., P. Feb. 14, 1955 [June 2, 1954], No. 16281/54. Class 65 (1). A telescopic stay 10, connecting a panel 16, such as a top-hinged window, to a fixed structure 15 to which the panel is hinged, is provided at or near its point of connection to the panel with a bolt for engagement with a retainer member 32 on the structure 15 to hold the panel closed. The stay comprises a bar 12 hinged at its upper end to the structure 15 sliding in a channel member pivoted at 20 to a bracket 19 on the panel 16, and the bolt is formed by a separate bar 26, with a nose 33, sliding in the lower end of the channel member and slotted to receive the pivot pin 20; the bolt is provided with an operating knob 28 which also serves to pull the panel to the closed position. The panel is held in any open position by friction between the bar 12 and a leaf spring held in a recess in the channel member. In a modification, the bolt is arranged transversely to the plane of movement of the stay; it may be spring- pressed, and may be actuated by a pivoted lever with a cam portion engaging its end. The bolt may be applied to a stay of fixed length having sliding engagement at one end with a guide-bar fixed to the panel. Specification 625,337 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
