498,948. Door fastenings. TONKS, W. H., and SPARKS, W. Dec. 17, 1937, No. 34952. [Class 44] A cupboard-door fastening comprises a bellcrank lever having a long arm a and a short arm b with an open-ended slot engaging the reduced central portion of a cylindrical member c adapted to slide or roll in guide slots h provided in the lugs f between which the lever is pivoted at g. Member c is raised by arm a falling, and projects laterally so that its projecting end engages under a hook-shaped projection on a plate k secured to the frame j. The lugs f are carried by a plate e secured to the door i. The hook has a rounded nose n which exerts a cam action on member c to close the door tightly. As shown, member c projects at both ends, so that it may be used at either the right or left side as required. In a modification, the guide slots are omitted and the guiding is effected by a straight edge formed on the lugs, the movement of arm a towards the release position being limited by a projection on the lever engaging the lugs. In a further modification, the lateral projections are formed on a slidable plate member which has a projection engaging the slot in arm b, or a hole engaged by the arm.
