Abstract

641,162. Endless-track vehicles. TAMKIN BROS. & CO., Ltd., and HORNER, D. J. Oct. 7, 1946, No. 29839. [Class 79 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A tractor or like wheel, stated to be applicable to endless-track vehicles, comprises an outer rim, to which various types of tread elements or tyres may be fitted, detachably secured to the wheel body by interengaging wedge members provided on either the rim or the wheel, the assembly being effected by bayonet-joint action. In the form shown in Figs. 1 to 4, the wheel rim is provided with three spaced flanges 6, 7-7, forming two grooves 5 having circumferentially-spaced pairs of wedge-seatings 9 for cooperation with semi-circular lugs 12 on the detachable rim member 2. The lugs are entered through gaps 8 in the flanges which have apertures 13 to receive locking-pins &c. when the rim 2 has been moved to wedge the lugs 12 into driving engagement with the wheel-rim. As shown, the rim 2 is fitted with strakes 10 the tracking-width of which may be varied by reversible assembly of the rim 2 and selective positioning of the rim to the grooves 5. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which a detachable rim 24 for a pneumatic &c. tyre is fitted with grooved lugs 25 adapted for (selective) driving-engagement with wedge-seatings on the outer ends of the wheel spokes, or on a second set of spokes 27. The latter are attached to the main wheel-part and spaced by a ring 28.
